Description

I have found Sumatran Tigers to be the most beautiful out of all the tiger species alive today, and they are critically endangered.  They are the only species of tiger left on the Sunda Island groups which once included two additional subspecies.  It's thought that there are only 400 left and steadily declining thanks to poaching and the belief that many of the tigers parts are powerful when infused into wines, ground up into food, or taken as some kind of supplement.  They are beautiful creatures and intrinsic to a healthy ecosystem, yet they are hunted mercilessly.  GoPro recently put out a short documentary that really helps to put it into perspective: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNLGCf… Give it a look and then take a look at this little cutie, snoozing at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia.  This is where we will find them soon, and even then the breeding programs may not be successful and they will blink out of existence forever.  © 2012-Current.

Didn't realize the were quite that endangered.  I see other big cats at the zoos where I volunteer, but neither they, nor Zoo America, has a tiger.  "Powerful," huh?  Is that a polite way of saying people think they're an aphrodisiac?
